How will I get around during the conference? Traveling about in downtown Pittsburgh is convenient, and the locations and venues are close and easy to get to.


Venues, Parking, Workshops, and Excursions

Getting to the venues from the hotel
From the Pittsburgh Renaissance Hotel, turn right and walk along Ft Duquesne Blvd for 1 block and cross the Andy Warhol (or 7th street) Bridge. Continue on Sandusky Street into the Allegheny Commons. You will see the signs for the New Hazlett Theater. The theater is 1.1 miles from the hotel, a 15 – 20 minute walk.

Parking
If you are driving, the New Hazlett Theater is located at 6 Allegheny Square East, Pittsburgh, PA 15212.

Discounted parking will be available for $4.25 per day in the Allegheny Center Garage (100 South Commons, Pittsburgh, PA 15212). Park first and purchase your discounted parking at the Children’s Museum before returning to your car at the end of the day.

There will be a limited amount of parking available at the Grand Hall at the Priory.

Getting to and from the workshops
On Thursday, October 1, 2015 there will be free shuttle buses to bring you from the Renaissance Hotel to Carnegie Mellon University for the workshops.

  • Buses will depart for the morning sessions from the Renaissance Hotel at 7:30am 7:45am and 8:00am.
  • Buses will depart Carnegie Mellon University after the morning sessions at 12:00pm and 12:15pm and return to the Renaissance Hotel.
  • Buses will depart from the Renaissance Hotel for the afternoon sessions at 12:30pm, 1:00pm and 1:30pm.
  • Buses will depart Carnegie Mellon University at 5:15pm, 5:30pm and 6:00pm and return to the Renaissance Hotel.

There will be volunteers available to guide you onto the buses.

Getting to and from the excursions
On Saturday, October 3, 2015 there will be free shuttle buses to bring you to and from many of the excursions. The shuttle buses will pick you up and drop you off from the New Hazlett Theater. There will be volunteers available to guide you on the buses. Some of the excursions, such as the Mattress Factory, are an easy walk from the New Hazlett Theater.

Lyft & Uber
Conference goers are encouraged to use Lyft to get around the city. Lyft has provided us a promotional code for the conference UXCONF2015

Uber is available throughout Pittsburgh and can also be used for transportation to and from the airport.

Public Transportation
Buses and the “T” or light rail in downtown Pittsburgh is free within the “Golden Triangle”.

The closest T station to the New Hazlett Theater is the “North Side Station” on E General Robinson St. The station is 0.7 miles from the theater, about a 15 minute walk. Schedules are available from the Port Authority.

Golden Triangle Bicycle Rentals
Golden Triangle Bikes is Pittsburgh’s Premier Bike Tour and Rental location and the preferred bicycle rental company of the Midwest UX conference. Bicycles are available for full day and multi-day rentals. Healthy Ride Bikes
Pittsburgh’s bike share program, Healthy Ride, has stations throughout the city where bikes can be picked up and returned. The closest station to the Pittsburgh Renaissance Hotel is at Fort Duquesne Blvd & 7th St, 1 block away. The closest stations to the conference venues is at Federal St & E North Ave, 1 block from the New Hazlett Theater. Bike rentals can be paid for at the station kiosk, or through a mobile phone app.
